Idemitsu Honda Team Asia logoAzlan Shah Kamaruzaman went through another fruitless outing in the Moto2 World Championship as he finished outside the points in the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, coming in 19th on Sunday.

The Honda Team Asia who is in his second term in MotoGP was aiming to secure points at the Circuit of the Americas but his hopes did not materialize after he crashed during the qualifying on Saturday and was forced to start the race from row eight, despite showing some improvements in his lap time.

With such a huge disadvantage, Azlan could only improve by five positions on Sunday, completing the 19-lap race in 42’26.146s while teammate, Takaaki Nakagami crossed the finish line 10th in 42’03.329s.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes took the chequered flag in 41’45.565s despite suffering three crashes earlier this weekend while Frenchman, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) and Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) took second and third in 41’47.564s and 41’50.187s respectively.

“I had a good feeling with the bike but in the end it was still a very difficult day because there were wet patches and light rain during the race. I cant help but feel disappointed but this only helps strengthen my resolve to work harder in the upcoming rounds. Hopefully soon, I can score some points,” said Azlan.

Honda Team Asia manager, Tadayuki Okada said, “Azlan is still finding the right way to ride a Moto2 machine and he has shown a lot of improvement but it is not enough. Somehow the way he rides causes the tyres to lose grip a lot quicker. We will discuss with the engineers and look for an immediate solution to this issue.”
