Despite being able to match Movistar Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo’s pace throughout the race, Rossi was unable to recover from the time lost by starting in seventh. The two teammates are almost perfectly matched in race pace and championship points as MotoGP™ head to the iconic Assen track. Increased track temperatures played into the hands of Rossi today, the Italian struggling less than Lorenzo. Fans were treated to dramatic final laps as Rossi did his best to catch Lorenzo, finishing 0.885s behind at the line. Second place results in Rossi continuing to lead the Championship, albeit by just a single point.

“Mugello was very busy, because I am very competitive and all the Italian
fans expected a great race from me. It‘s a bit of a shame that it wasn‘t a fantastic race”, Valentino Rossi. Photo Credit –

Valentino Rossi: “I hoped to catch Lorenzo, but it was difficult. Unfortunately starting from the third row I lost a lot even though I was strong in the first lap. After this I was always there. I am happy as I had a good pace, good setting; my speed is equal in the race today to Jorge that is a good target. After seven races we have one point difference and a similar pace, so it will be interesting I think!” –
