PETRONAS Talent Development rider, Hafizh Syahrin expects the competition to heat up in the Moto2 World Championship as the contingent descends in Europe for Round 4 of the Motorcycle World Championship (MotoGP) at Jerez, Spain this weekend.

For Hafizh, Jerez marks the start of the championship battle with most of the Moto2 teams and riders being more accustomed to the European tracks.

While he admits the upcoming 10 races will be an uphill battle, Hafizh and PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia is ready to take on the European rounds having put on an encouraging pace in the first three rounds in Qatar, Argentina and America. He is further boosted by his performance last year at Jerez where he finished 12th.

Based from the data gathered during the test with all new parts fitted, Hafizh and the team is looking at getting a good startup for the weekend. Small variable with the official engine parameters, air and track temperature will definitely effect the setup a bit but everything should be ok if it is tackled early on.

Currently Hafizh is ranked ninth overall with 23 points while Britain’s Sam Lowes leads the Moto2 World Championship with 47 points ahead of Alex Rins and Johann Zarco.

I am refreshed after taking a break right after COTA. Jerez is not an easy circuit but I am quite familiar with it just like the rest of the field. We did the official test here earlier this year and was quite satisfied with the overall result after we fitted new parts. I am looking at finishing better here this year.

Barry Leong, PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia team manager
We are ready to take up the European rounds! Hafizh is stronger and wiser this year having picked up a lot more experience. The upgrades on the chassis and parts are helping and complementing Hafizh so far. Again, we want to be sure to tackle qualifying so that we could have a better chance of fighting with the front group
