The Motul Zeneos Yamaha YY Pang rider had mounted an unassailable campaign in the first quarter with a hattrick of podiums. However, Tengku Amirul hit a setback in Round 4 at Kota Bharu when he was penalized for dangerous racing behaviour. His win in Kota Bharu was nullified when he was excluded from the race results. Consequently, Tengku Amirul also lost the maximum 25 points he earned from that round.

Nevertheless, Tengku Amirul’s title chase is still on track. Having amassed two victories and one second place finish in the first three rounds, Tengku Amirul still leads the CP115 contingent with 70 points to his name. He holds a 19-point margin ahead of closest contender Mohd Harith Farhan Baharin.

“While it is true that I did not lose my leadership position (due to the loss of the 25 points), the gap between me and Harith has narrowed significantly. With six more rounds to go, I feel pressured to increase the margin again,” said Tengku Amirul.

Round 5 of the 2016 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship will be held in Teluk Intan on July 30 and 31, 2016. Spectator entry is free.
