Malaysian Cub Prix Championship logoThe search for new Malaysian motorcycling talents intensifies with the recent success on the international front by former Cub Prix proteges Khairul Idham Pawi, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, Adam Norrodin and Zulfahmi Khairuddin. As Round 6 of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship revs off at Bandar Baru Kijal in Kemaman, Terengganu this weekend, registration for those interested to sign up for the class of 2017 in the Honda and Yamaha developmental one-make series is officially open.

“Motorsports at the national level has gained tremendous momentum this season, especially with a number of good news coming from those racing at the Asian and world level,” said Ron Hogg, Promotions Director of Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd, the race promoters of the Malaysian Cub Prix.

“Following a series of discussions with Honda and Yamaha, it had been decided to begin the registration process for the coming season at an earlier date. The registration will stay open until early 2017. By extending the period, we hope to cast a deeper and wider net.”

The Honda and Yamaha one-make-race series has become an important tool in the developmental process of Malaysian riders.

Riders selected for both series can be assured of professional coaching and training by respected Malaysian riders. The bikes will be supplied and prepared by the respective motorcycle manufacturers.

However, with effect from the 2017 season, participants of the Honda and Yamaha developmental series will be required to pay a commitment fee of RM4,000.00 for the whole season. In return, the racing suits will belong to the riders at the end of the season. Additionally, Yamaha is offering confirmed slots in their Wira team for the top two riders from the class of 2017. In turn, Honda will also assist the top-3 riders in making placements with key Honda satellite teams.

“The Honda and Yamaha one-make-race series has become an important tool in the developmental process of Malaysian riders. Almost every single successful Malaysian international rider today can trace their roots back to the one-make series. As an example, Khairul Idham Pawi was discovered while racing in the Honda series while Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah’s first major win at the age of 13 was in the Yamaha series. Both these developmental scholarship classes are an affordable way for youngsters to take part in the sport without forking out a huge sum of money.”
