Singapore’s Danial Nielsen-Frost rounded off the weekend with another podium result.

The final day of the second round of the 2017 Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) at the Sepang International Circuit on Sunday saw two more races being held. Singapore’s Danial Nielsen-Frost rounded off the weekend with another podium result following his second place finish in Race 3 and continued adding points to his championship haul after finishing fifth in Race 4.

Starting the Race 3 in the morning from the front row of the grid from P2, the young Singaporean ace had a strong and challenging race defending the position throughout the duration of the 10-lap race. Having had to first defend against Daniel Lu (Absolute Racing) and the Japanese Tomoki Takahashi (Super License), the teenager kept his cool to secure another podium with a his second place finish.

With the grid positions determined by the drivers’ fastest lap times from Race 3, Frost had to contend with the fourth row start from P8 for the final race of the weekend in the evening. Despite a challenging race, the youngster was able to make up several positions and move up to P5 by the mid-way point of the shortened 9-lap race. Though Frost did struggle with his car, the teenager kept the position all the way to chequered flag en route to adding more valuable championship points to his overall haul.

– P2 Race 3; P_ Race 4: “Started from P2 for Race 3 and am really happy that I managed to defend and finish the race in P2! For sure I wanted to challenge James (Yu), but overall, I’m really happy that I was consistent throughout the race. My main focus and strategy was to keep the guys behind me and had a couple of really good battles in the race, first with Daniel (Lu) and then Tomoki (Takahashi) who gave me a good fight!

“Starting from P8 for Race 4 was always going to be an uphill struggle. I had an OK start and was not able to make up as many places as I would have liked. From then on, I just put my head down and focused on trying to catch the guys ahead of me. By the mid-way point, I caught Isyraf (Danish, Eurasia) but I could not do much as I was really struggling with the car after being hit from behind and that affected my race.

Looking back over the weekend, I am happy that we managed to collect more points, which is really important. Now to shift my focus onto the next round at a track I am not familiar with, Zhuhai in China next month! Finally, a massive ‘THANK YOU’ to the team engineers, my coach, the mechanics for all the work this weekend, my sponsors Denjet, Leighton-Nielsen and Marlborough College. Last but not least, to my parents and supporters, your support means the world to me! ”

The next round of the series will take place at the Zhuhai International Circuit in China from 16 to 18 June.
